Big effort for second on debut in a strong maiden race. Got back from an outside gate and had to make his run wide, hitting the line like a horse that won’t be a maiden for long.

Had only five rivals but that didn’t stop him getting into all sorts of traffic problems. Crossed the line in fourth place full of running and just over a length from the winner.

Hastings, June 29

SAMOOT

Another good fresh-up effort to finish second, beaten only a neck. Running out of time to win a decent race but can still make the breakthrough.

Wingatui, June 30

SHEJENGAR

Turned form around with a solid, albeit distant, late finish into second. Should pick up a win on that effort.
