Bet of the Week - 9 May
Race 1 Riverton, May 9
SOUTHERN COUNTRY
A lightly raced Tavistock gelding who had two close placings at Wingatui in March, then overcame a slow start for a strong-finishing fifth over this course and distance on April 21. Looks close to a win.
Race 7 Rotorua, May 10
RAAJOICES
With three wins from five starts at Arawa Park, Raajoices is a real course specialist. All of his wins have come on heavy ground too, so the forecast rain holds no fears.
Race 6 Trentham, May 10
GREAT ESCAPE
This talented mare has placed in all three starts in this preparation, beaten by 0.7 lengths, 0.8 lengths and 0.2 lengths. She doesn’t need to improve much to break through for a deserved win.
Race 7 Whanganui, May 11
AFTERNOON SIESTA
After a smart trial win at Foxton, she made her debut at Trentham on April 12 and ran a big race for second – beaten by a short neck by the highly rated three-year-old Croupier. With natural improvement from that experience, she should be hard to beat second-up.
Race 4 Ascot Park, May 11
UNLEASH THE BEAST
Highly rated by Rangiora trainer Kenny Moore and scored a runaway six-length maiden win at Ashburton on March 13. Can go on with it.
