LOVERACING.NZ Preview - New Plymouth 24 November

Meeting Overview

Going: Soft6 (23/11)

Rail: Out 4m

The track is currently a Soft6 at time of writing on Thursday afternoon, with strong southerlies blowing for the majority of the day, I imagine the track may come back to a Soft5 for the duration of racing. The rail was out 10.5m for the last meeting in October, therefore with 6.5m of fresh ground, I expect all lanes to play evenly.

Best Bet

Race 3 - #6 WIND OF CHANGE (Win)

She looks to be a filly with plenty of ability and no shortage of speed. Her trial leading into this resuming run was very sharp, which should have her right on song to run a bold race first-up. The firmer track surface will suit Wind Of Change much better than the Heavy10 she faced on debut. I expect her to be the likely leader from the wider gate (8) and prove hard to catch.

Next Best Bet

Race 6 - #2 RUA ROCKS (Each Way)

Willing to have a small each way play on Rua Rocks at long odds in this race. He now gets up to 2000m 3rd up, on better track conditions, with one of the country’s leading riders in Joe Doyle taking the steer. He maps to lead this as he likes, which should see him have every opportunity to try and recapture some of his better form from last season – which is definitely good enough to win a race of this caliber. Although his recent form isn’t flash (to say the least), I think you’re getting the right price to find out.
