Meeting Overview

Going: Soft7 (20/10)

Rail: Out 5m

First meeting at Trentham this season, with the track currently sitting as a Soft7 and the rail out 5m. With clear weather over the next 24 hours, I’m expecting the track could come back to a Soft6. Given this is the first use of the Trentham track in three months, coupled with the long Trentham straight and dog-leg bend, every runner should have their chance in all lanes (pace dependent).

Best Bet

Race 3 - #4 KANA (Win)

This looks an ideal race for Kana, off the back of a luckless 5th last start. She comes into this race 3rd up, 14 days between runs and has the benefit of a low draw (3) in a race with plenty of speed engaged. Her two runs this time in have arguably been career peak figures, where she came home in sub 33s for her last 600m first-up at Woodville. She maps to sit midfield, off what looks to be a very strong tempo, where she can be saved for one run at them down the long Trentham straight. Unless Kana regresses from her first two runs back, or has little luck in running, it would take an improved peak performance from a race rival to beat her here. The $2.80 available is a significant overlay for mine, I have her marked odds-on. For those wanting to play a small cover, Boasting looked the only other who was slightly over the odds at $7.00, with the blinkers on first-up off the back of a quiet trial.

Next Best Bet

Race 8 - #3 ONE BOLD CAT (Win)

I thought One Bold Cat looked very well placed at the weights in this race, where he comes into this on the minimum with only 53kg on his back. First-up, One Bold Cat resumed in great fashion, where despite being beaten 5.9L behind Sacred Satono, he did record the fastest closing 200m of the race. The step up to the mile 2nd up will only aid his chances here, where he should be extremely competitive with natural improvement from his resuming run. The wide draw (10) shouldn’t be too much of an issue, as I suspect there’ll be enough early tempo from out wide to see him find a spot with cover behind midfield.
