Matamata October 17
JOSHUA BROWN
The Opunake Cup winner had no luck at all when finishing fifth in the Matamata Cup. He was badly blocked for most of the straight and went to the line untested, finishing 1.9 lengths behind the winner Agera.
Wingatui October 17
MOVE ON
Taken back from her wide gate, she was last turning into the straight and had plenty of work to do. She caught the eye with a big finish into second, only a neck from the winner.
Ellerslie October 18
LOVE SYMBOL
In a race dominated by the front-running winner Charmrose, she came from last and flew home for a close fourth. She clocked the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m in the race.
Trentham October 18
ROGUE ROMANCE
In her first start since May, she overcame a slow start to finish strongly into third with the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m in the race. Her two career victories have come over 2100m and 2200m, so any increase in distance from the 1600m of this race will suit.
Waverley October 19
ROYAL SOVEREIGNS
Dislodged the rider and galloped a short distance before being recaptured before the race. She underwent a vet check and was cleared to start. Taken back from her wide gate, she settled near the tail of the field before beginning to improve around the outside. Came widest around the home turn and finished strongly down the outside for a close fourth, clocking the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m.
Ashburton October 19
DAPHNE DIOR
One of the last to straighten for home, she launched an eye-catching run down the outside to finish fifth and less than two lengths from the winner. She was a $28 chance in this race but should be at shorter odds next time.
