THE RADIANT ONE
In her first appearance since April, this black-type performer ran a big race for second behind Martell, who has now won three in a row in the South Island. The Radiant One settled in sixth before quickening nicely and finishing the race off better than any horse not called Martell. She seems to have come back in good order and can make her presence felt during Cup Week.
Hawera October 4
BALLINRAN
This maiden four-year-old ran the best race of his four-start career to date. He settled in midfield before moving closer before the turn. He fought hard through the last 300 metres and crossed the line in second, half a length from the winner. His time for the last 200m was the quickest in the race.
Matamata October 4
LATRELLE
Another one making her first appearance since April, Latrelle settled in fourth and stuck on solidly down the straight to finish a good third despite peaking on her run late in the piece. She will improve with that run under her belt and is worth keeping an eye on second-up.
