MARTELL

Southern debut for this former Jim Collett-trained runner, who was a solid last-start fourth in open company at Te Rapa. He drops to Rating 75 grade here. Five of his six wins have come on heavy tracks, and he gets conditions to suit here.

Ellerslie September 6 – Race 2

SWEET BUT PSYCHO

Caught the eye with a big run for the back for a close second over 1500m at Te Rapa last start, beaten by a neck. Her maiden win came over this distance, so the step up to 2200m should suit. Has placed at Ellerslie.

Otaki September 6 – Race 2

ENA SHARPLES

Promising seconds in both starts to date, including a narrow defeat by only a head in her most recent appearance. Doesn’t need to improve much to break through here.

Woodville September 7 – Race 7

HARD ROCK CAFE

There was a lot to like about his strong-finishing second on debut over 1100m at this course. He is sure to have taken improvement from it and looks hard to hold out over 1200m this week.

Timaru September 7 – Race 3

TRANQUIL EYES

Brings a solid form line into this race, including a creditable last-start fourth at Riccarton. Meets an easier-looking maiden field here.
