Te Rapa August 23
SHOMA
He was sent out as a $101 outsider against a hot three-year-old field, but produced a performance that suggests he could be a lot better than that. He came from last and flew home for second, clocking the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m. He shouldn't be a maiden for long.
Hawera August 23
YELLOW JERSEY
Previously a four-race winner and nine-time placegetter on the flat, he made a promising switch to jumping with a third placing in the maiden hurdle. He's worth following as he continues in this new role.
Awapuni Synthetic August 24
IT'S AMELIA
Still a maiden after 17 starts, but she's recorded seven minor placings. This was perhaps her best one yet, producing a big finish for second behind the highly talented winner Toronto. She ran the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m in the race.
