Now a placegetter in three of his six career starts. He produced a big finish again for third here, running the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m. He looks close to a maiden win.

A late-finishing sixth on debut, he stepped up to 2100m here for his second career start and ran on even more strongly. He came from last and ended up in fourth. He’s entered for Woodville on Sunday and should be hard to beat with a similar performance there.

 

 

Riccarton, August 9

 

 

After a slow start, she settled at the tail of the field before cutting the corner at the home turn to come through and take the lead at the top of the straight. She was reeled in late by runners in the better ground out wide, but finished a highly creditable fourth.

 

 

Hawera, August 10

 

 

This first-starter drew gate two and was stuck in the worst ground closer to the inside. Her effort to stick on for a close sixth had plenty of merit.
