Awapuni Synthetic July 4

LURCH

A winner over the same course and 1700m distance in his previous start, he got well back here and had an interrupted run as he tried to weave through the pack early in the run home. He eventually stormed home for second, running the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m of the race. Three starts on synthetic for a win, a second and a fourth. Stay with him on that surface.

Te Rapa July 5

DIAMOND JAK

Missed the start by at least four lengths. Improved around the outside of the field coming down the side of the track, covering plenty of extra ground. He fought bravely down the extreme outside in the straight to finish third and less than two lengths behind the winner Drop Of Something, who saved ground closer to the inside.

Tauranga July 6

OCEAN ROAD

Eye-catching efforts in both of his runs this time in. He resumed with a fourth over 1150m at Tauranga on June 22, then launched an even stronger finish here from well back in the field. He got to within a neck of the promising winner Macallan, clocking the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m of the race.

Otaki July 8

GEORGIEWOOD

Maiden gelding from the Kevin Myers stable. Missed the start and got well back, but found the line in good style to run fourth with the best closing sectionals in the race.
