Te Aroha, January 4
MALDINI
Honest sort who was clearly beaten by the runaway winner, but still deserves credit after covering more ground than any other runner and finding the line well. Handles a wide range of track conditions.
Trentham, January 5
NAVIGATOR
Not favoured by the weight-for-age conditions and a late check didn’t help his chances either, however he acquitted himself admirably in finishing third. Paid the price with an 11-point ratings rise, but he’s up to winning any time soon, especially on a left-handed track.
Greymouth, January 6
RETAIL THERAPY
A massive effort for third after blowing the start and getting home late on the tight circuit. Gets another chance at Kumara Saturday.
