LOVERACING.NZ Preview - Wingatui 3 January

Meeting Overview

Going: Soft7 (02/02)

Rail: True

With the Wingatui track currently rated a Soft7 and more rain expected over the next 24 hours, I expect we could be racing on a Heavy8-9 for the duration of racing tomorrow. I expect the inside lanes will play okay early in the day, however, as the day progresses, it certainly won’t be a disadvantage to draw wide and be making a run beyond the middle of the track.

Best Bet

Race 9 - #2 TIMES TICKING (Win)

Although he isn’t solely a wet tracker, as shown by his impressive last start win on a Good3 at Trentham, Times Ticking does handle Heavy tracks as well as any horse in the country. Given his main danger in the race, Perfect Scenario, likely won’t appreciate the going as much as he will, I’m surprised they’re as close as they are in the market. Joe Doyle travelling down and sticking to the ride after his last start win is also a strong guide, he rates an odds-on chance for mine.

Next Best Bet

Race 2 - #16 PEEKAY (Win)

Terry Kennedy trained 4yo who was well supported on debut before having zero luck in running, being parked 5-wide throughout over the 1200m. He looks to get a much more ideal setup here, with the tongue tie now going on, drawn a much better gate in 5, with talented rider, Joe Doyle, in the saddle. This doesn’t look to be the strongest maiden; therefore, I expect Peekay to be hard to beat with even luck in running.
