LOVERACING.NZ Preview - Trentham 13 January

Meeting Overview

Going: Soft5 (12/01)

Rail: True

The track is currently a Soft5 as of Friday afternoon, which should see the surface play in the Good3 – Good4 range for racing tomorrow. The rail is in the true position, I expect the inside few lanes will be the place to be, as it could prove difficult to make ground out wide throughout the day.

Best Bet

Race 1 - #3 SASSY MERLOT (Win)

She is a classy mare on her day who has the early toe to cross this field from the wide gate, where she looks to get a nice cart across the field with Bradman likely looking to find a forward position underneath her. Should Sassy Merlot find the front and Craig Grylls can dictate terms, I expect her to take plenty of running down – especially if the inside lanes play as previewed above.

Next Best Bet

Race 7 - #8 WAISAKE (Place)

Waisake looks a nice place proposition in this staying contest at the $3.30 currently available. Although Saturday’s race is likely a final tune up for the Gr.3 NZ Campus for Innovation & Sport Wellington Cup next weekend, I expect he will be hitting the line hard tomorrow. With the likes of Sagunto and Kingfisher Lad engaged in this field, it’ll likely be run hard in front and feel like a true staying contest, which will bring out the best of Waisake.
