LOVERACING.NZ Preview - Pukekohe 9 December
Meeting Overview
Going: Good4 (8/12)
Rail: Out 6m
The track is currently a Good4 at time of writing on Friday afternoon. A clear forecast over the next 24 hours should see us racing on a Good3/Good4 throughout tomorrow’s meeting. The rail was out 3m at the last meeting here 25th November, now moving out 6m from the true position on Saturday. I’m expecting all lanes to be playing evenly, however, with the track on the faster side it could be difficult to make up much ground from the back.
Best Bet
Race 4 - #6 TERRA MITICA (Win)
This looks an ideal 3rd up assignment for the ex-European mare, Terra Mitica. Her two career wins in the UK came over 2000m, whilst her two runs in NZ have also suggested that the additional ground should only aid her chances. From the low draw (2), she maps to get a great run midfield on the rail, in what should be a genuinely run 2100m contest. Terra Mitica has also had a nice maintenance trial since her last run, which should have her right on song for Saturday’s assignment. I rated her a clear favourite in what looks a very winnable race for her.
Next Best Bet
Race 3 - #1 WALLEN (Win)
He really picks himself in this maiden 1600m contest. He is well overdue for that elusive maiden victory, where his racing pattern and bad luck have been the only thing stopping him. This maiden field isn’t any tougher than his last start, where he was an unlucky 2nd, he SP’d at $2.10 that day – therefore the $2.00 looks a fair price here. Unless one of his opponents significantly improves, it does look as though bad luck is the only thing that can stop him here.
