LOVERACING.NZ Preview - Wanganui 25 November

24 November 2023

Meeting Overview: (as at 24/11)

Going: Soft6 (as at 24/11)

The track is currently rated a Soft6 and there is rain falling. Looking at the forecast I would suggest this track will slide further towards the Heavy9 range come race morning. With this in mind, I think the key will be to find Soft/Heavy track form. Our last meeting at Wanganui was on Thursday 2nd November and the rail was out 4m on that occasion. The track had a slight leaders bias on 2nd November and with the rail being out 5m from 450m to post and the remainder out 4m, I think we could see it favour on speed runners again.

Best Bet

Race 5 - #5 FLOWER OF WANAKA (Win)

A stakes winning mare who has recently been confirmed as in foal. Her run for third last start was brave and the form of those ahead of her has stacked up with Diss Is Dramatic running well in the Coupland’s Mile subsequently. The prospect of rain will aid her chances and the 2kg claim of Lily Sutherland is a big factor here as she will have to carry just 52kg.

Next Bet

Race 3 - #2 ALABAMA GOLD (Each Way)

Forget the 7 on his form line from his last start, fresh up run. He was 3 wide the trip and managed to finish just 2.2 lengths from the race winner, even with a severe check just shy of the line. His trail at the start of the prep was phenomenal and second up here with the rise to 1200m looks like an ideal progression for this horse. Lisa Allpress takes the ride and from his low draw, he is likely to settle in or near the lead and I think he can play a big part in the finish of this race.
