Meeting Overview

Going: Heavy8

Rail: Out 1.5m Winning Post to 1300m, True remainder

The track is currently a Heavy8, with the rail out 1.5m from the Winning Post to the 1300m mark and in the true position for the remainder. There isn’t any rain forecasted for the duration of racing on Thursday, therefore I expect the track will remain in the Heavy8 range throughout. Expecting all lanes to play evenly early in the day, potentially getting off the rail as the day progresses.

Best Bet

Race 7 - #5 WESTWOOD (Win)

She probably rates as one of the better one-win horses going around, being beaten a narrow margin behind Legarto this time last year, before going down less than 3L in the Gr.3 Sweynesse Stakes at this course/distance. Her resuming run was only moderate when trailing at Taupo, however, Westwood has shown in the past that she has done her best racing out in front. With the other key speed influences drawn underneath her, I expect Opie will put her into the race early and control things from the top. Anything close to a peak performance from Westwood here would win comfortably, therefore more than happy to play the $3.80 available.

Next Best Bet

Race 5 - #1 HUZZAH (Win)

He trialed very well leading into this resuming run, where he was bolting on the heels of the leaders throughout. There looks to be plenty of speed engaged in this 1215m contest, therefore sitting behind midfield with cover, and off the fence, could be an ideal position come Race 5. His recent SP profile is strong, suggesting he is well overdue for his maiden success. The $6.00 on offer is overs for mine.
