LOVERACING.NZ Preview - Waverley 12 October

Meeting Overview

Going: Good4

Rail: Out 3m from Winning post to 1350, remainder true.

With the rail being in the true position from the 1350m to the winning post, I expect the Waverley track to play evenly. The track has come up a Good4, which should see all lanes having a fair chance in the home running, every runner will have their chance (pace dependent).

Best Bet

Race 4 - #3 HORONUKU (Win)

Debut run for 2nd had plenty of merit, where Horonuku had to do some midrace work to retain the trail after only jumping fairly. The form out of the race has been franked already, with the winner (Popsagoosey) having subsequently been placed in a MAAT race on Arrowfield Stud Plate day at Hastings. Outside of Hilary Banks, there doesn’t look to be an abundance of early speed in the race, which could see Sam Weatherley land handy to the speed without doing too much work from the wide gate (10). With natural improvement from his debut effort, I expect Horonuku to take plenty of beating here. The $3.60 looks a backable price for mine, I had him priced sub $3.00 in this field.

Next Best Bet

Race 1 - #4 MOSSRAAJ (Each Way)

The run of Mossraaj two starts back at this course/distance is a great guide for this. It was comfortably Mossraaj’s best run of his short career, where he flashed home for 3rd, with his closing sectionals measuring up very well for the day despite being over 2200m. The key to his chances looks to be getting back on a firmer surface, as his performances on Heavy tracks have been significantly below what he showed on a Soft5 at Waverley last month. The 3kg claim of Lemmy Douglas and the low gate (2) should only aid Mossraaj’s chances, happy to play the $10/$3.20 currently available.
