Standout Sectionals - 4 September
Sectional Star of the Week
Race 3 Riccarton Synthetic, 31 August
Talisker
This was a top performance as he cut out his first 400m in 23.75 and had to work four wide for the lead, having every excuse to weaken. He showed real courage to kick away and "win with a leg in the air" as Matt Cross accurately described it. The race time was quick so he has a promising campaign ahead of him.
Sectional Standouts
Race 5 Cambridge, 30 August
Imprevu
This 5yo mare rattled home in the best closing sectionals in a fast race time, and from a wide draw. As soon as she draws a good barrier, she will be very hard to hold out.
Race 6 Cambridge, 30 August
Our Absolute
After sharing the pace she stuck on very well running home in good sectionals. She debuted out of her class in this and when she drops back to maiden company, she will be hard to beat.
Race 2 Whanganui, 2 September
Rosielicious
She came from well back to run second in the best closing sectionals. If she draws handier and lands closer, she will get a well deserved win.
Race 5 Whanganui, 2 September
Conway O'Ceirin
He was lost for early speed and then when looking for a run in the straight, had nowhere to go until the last 100 metres, and finished sixth in the best last 400 and 200 metres. There is a good race waiting for him at Hastings.
