HEADLINE ACT

La Crique - $4.50

Really hard to go past this classy mare off the back of her eye-catching trial leading into the Tarzino Trophy. La Crique looks to come back bigger and stronger, whilst the weather report is also looking much better for Hastings than it did this time last year. The $4.50 on offer is very short for a futures option, however, if the track does land in the Soft range come Saturday 9th September, I would be awfully surprised if La Crique was any longer than $4.00 come the jump.

MIDDLE MARKET

Pier - $10.00

To the eye, many would have been underwhelmed by Pier’s first up performance when finishing 8th= in the Gr.2 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate. I did think there were positives to take out of this effort; Pier was 0.02s off the fastest closing 200m of the race, after never looking to travel comfortably in the high tempo 1200m event, whilst no horse on the day won from wider than 7 lanes off the rail in the straight. If you backed Pier first-up in the Foxbridge Plate, I would be sticking with him over the 1400m journey at Hastings, where he will be a player if he can draw a decent barrier.

OUTSIDE CHANCE

Brando - $21.00

The first-up run of Brando in the Gr.2 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate was enormous. From the outside gate, McNab was forced to ease Brando all the way back to last, where he was over 10L behind the leaders turning for home. Despite running out of room over the latter stages, Brando was only beaten 3.4L at a distance short of his best, whilst running the 3rd fastest closing 800m, 600m and 400m of the race. Brando looks to have returned in great order, he’s another who will be much better suited over 1400m, especially from a low gate.

SPECIAL MENTION

Legarto - $5.50 Boosted Option

Along with the other three futures plays mentioned above, I will be covering on the boosted option around Legarto. She simply cannot start close to this price come the jump in the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy, therefore I won’t be losing on her should she resume in the same form which saw her winning the Gr.1 Australian Guineas.
