Race 8 - #6 JON OL ROCCO (Each Way)
I couldn’t believe the $10.00 quote put up for Jon Ol Rocco in this R65 1400m contest. I had him priced as a $4.00 favourite in what looks an open race. He’s first up since running 7th beaten 4.5L in the Gr.3 Manawatu Classic, in behind the likes of Arby, Desert Lightning and Cheval D’Or. I expect the track could come back to a Soft7 come the last race, which should suit Jon Ol Rocco perfectly. 1400m first-up is likely on the short end of ideal for him, however, he’s had a nice hit out at the trials leading into this run, the side winkers go on and Jason Laking rides from barrier one, I expect he will be right in this.

Race 3 - #5 I AM ROMAN (Each Way)
He’s a well bred 3yo son of I Am Invincible who was been impressive in his two trial wins to date. The middle draw (7) over the 1000m at Riccarton is ideal, Warren Kennedy taking the ride will also be a big assist. I Am Roman has looked to handle the Soft-Heavy going with ease in his trials, therefore the conditions on Saturday shouldn’t trouble him. It is a strong race to debut in, however the $7.50/$2.50 looks a decent each way price, I will also be looking for a market lead from this stable come race day.
