Race 2 - #1 HUZZAH (WIN)

I thought there was a touch of overs about the $3.50 for Huzzah in this lineup. He’s been strongly backed in his two runs since returning from a spell, starting as short as $1.70 in the betting last start. He will likely get back from the wide draw, however, there does look to be an even speed in the race which should see him have his chance. He’s had no luck in either run back this preparation, expect he will be hard to beat with even luck here in what isn’t the strongest maiden field.

Race 6 - #6 MALFY ROSA (WIN)

Huge run for 4th in the G3 Trelawney Stud Championship Stakes last start, this was off the back of finishing 4th in the G1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai NZ Oaks behind subsequent G1 Australian Oaks winner, Pennyweka. She now finds herself back in a midweek R65 against the older horses on her home track, with regular rider Lynsey Satherley staying aboard. Going off how gamely she stuck to her guns in the worst part of the track at Pukekohe, the forecasted heavy showers wouldn’t deter me from backing her in this field. $3.60 on open looks a more than fair price for this talented filly.

Race 7 - #6 MATAI BAY (EACH WAY)

On paper, it’s hard to get excited about Matai Bay’s recent form reading 90X00. The blinkers come off for this run, which have been on for the four runs mentioned in the form-line above. The speed in the race only looks moderate, which should see Matai Bay be able to find a handy spot early without doing much work. In-form jockey, Tegan Newman, also now takes the steer for this 3rd up run. Plenty of factors in his favour to regain some form here. $10/$3 is nice enough each way odds to find out for mine.
