Best Bets

Race 1 - #5 VICTORIAN CHARM (EACH WAY)

Ex-northerner having his first run in the South Island here. Comes into this off the back of two very nice trials in the south, winning the latest in very impressive fashion. His last start 7th beaten 6L behind Niance would likely be good enough to give this a shake, however, going off his trials, he looks to have taken improvement from his first preparation.

Race 6 - #7 DODDLE (EACH WAY)

Very keen on this 3yo Dundeel filly stepping up to the mile. She gets one of the South Island’s best jockeys in Tina Comignaghi taking the steer from the low gate (3). Her last start 2nd over the 1400m was ultra impressive, recording the fastest closing 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m of the race, despite having a runner laying in on her most of the way down the straight. She also gets a 2.5kg swing on one of her main race rivals in Maryweka. Favourite, Luella Cristina, could prove hard to beat off the back of her G1 placing last start, however, at the price, I’m much happier to side with Doddle.

Key Runners

#1 LUELLA CRISTINA

#2 MARYWEKA

#7 DODDLE

Summary

A quality lineup of fillies tackle the mile, with many of these looking to add some black type to their CV. Expecting a genuine tempo in the race, with #8 ALMINETTE rolling across from her wide gate, the likes of #1 LUELLA CRISTINA, #4 MISS DUNSFORD and #2 MARYWEKA will all be looking to hold handy positions underneath from their low draws. The market has #1 LUELLA CRISTINA has the clear favourite, she’s coming into this off the back of her strong 3rd in the G1 Levin Classic.
