JUMPS PREVIEW

Hawera Preview

11th September 2020

Race 1        BHL FEEDS MAIDEN HURDLE        2900m

With 10 of the 14 runners having either their first or second start over hurdle’s I’m a little weary of the ‘greater unknown’ in this race particular those that have done well at Point to Point’s and schooling days such as Chowder, Dundee Street, Keep It Up and Mizzena but that aside I think that the obvious contenders are at the top of the page in the form of BAK DA MASTER and MASTER FIN.  Both performed well at Awapuni placing behind 2 promising types from the MYERS stables and if they continue on with that form then I see them both fighting out the finish

Suggested Bet:  Quinella BAK DA MASTER and MASTER FIN.

                              % TRI  1-2/1-2-4-8-13/1-2-4-8-13

Race 2        ECOLAB MAIDEN HURDLES           2900m

Similar scenario with the majority of the runners having limited experience over hurdler but unlike race 1 the chances here appear to go much deeper and several runners could present real each-way value.

MASTER COURTSMAN is a genuine jumper who would be a deserved winner as too would both RICHARD OF YORKE, VAN BLANC; both of their debuts were full of merit and they won’t be long out of the winner’s circle.  Throw into the mix KION & LITTLE MAC again 2 that have threatened to do the job but have found one better on several occasions.  Newcomers BRUNO KELLY & SON OF ANNA KAY are from strong jumping stables and bear a strong market watch particularly the later with the MYERS / FANNIN combo a fore to reckon with.

Suggested Bet: VAN BLANC each way

                              % Tri: 2-5-12/1-2-4-5-12/1-2-3-4-5-6-12

ELLERSLIE

12th September 2020

Race 1           STELLA ARTOIS MAIDEN HURDLE         2760m

Who in recent years would have thought we would have a maiden hurdle with 6 on the ballot?

Assuming the bottom of the balloted horse’s race on Friday I am find it difficult to go pass THE POORMANZABEEL. His debut at Awapuni was full of merit and I see him getting things pretty much his own way up in front.  Although he hasn’t raced at Ellerslie before he has won right-handed and is well-schooled that way round.

TIPICAL has shown real promise in his 2 attempts and a win isn’t far away.

Other to considerIZYMYDAD went 2 strong races prior to an average run at Awapuni,  ARGYLL was very good in his first attempt and is sure to be better for that run as too CLEVER. WHOLETTHEFOXOUT has performed well at the PTP and Jumping trials and has the leading rider engage so is also well worthy of consideration.

Suggested BetTHE POORMANZABEEL on top

                              Multi:  1-2-4/1-2-3-4-7-13

Race 2           BARFOOT & THOMPSON HURDLE        3350m

An interesting field gathers for the Restricted Open with again a number of chances.

On previous form, GRINNER seems the most logical choice after his fantastic run behind Aigne last time in the Awapuni hurdles so I think he will be the toughest to beat. SENASSY was impressive last week at Wanganui and has to be in the mix again with the 3kg claim.

Other to consider:  If the true GALLANTE turn’s up he is capable of anything. TRISHA LEA on her best form would also extend the front runners, ARTIE GURU was good last time in the Waikato Hurdles and there are promising types in EACH WAY, BANKS ROAD & MAGNAMIOUS MAN also contenders0.

Suggested Bet: GRINNER to win

                              Quinella GRINNER & SENASSY

Race 3          DUNSTAN FEEDS MAIDEN STEEPLES   4150m

It’s also a full field of maidens engaged for the maiden chase and a very open affair. I found it difficult to single out anyone chaser in particular for this but was very impressed with the recent runs of DRUMGOLD, THE ANARCHIST, RAAJ and TE KAHU. In addition to these if CRACKTHEGOODSTUFF is over the issue he had at Te Aroha he will be hard and I also have respect for the Niall QUINN runner in SOUTHERN COOL.

Suggested Bet: No standout but at the suspected odds, each way THE ANARCHIST

Playing a wide Multi around 1-2-4-5-6-13

Race 4           BARFOOT & THOMPSON STEEPLE        4150m

WISE MAN SAY has the weight of a very good horse and although the distance is still short of his best he is sure to appreciate the extra distance this week plus the hill. He has a fantastic record on this course and shouldn’t be judged on last week’s run at Wanganui.

MAGIC WONDER looked home at Awapuni before falling at the second last and can not be ignored with FANNIN taking over the reins on Saturday. While it was only a maiden chase last time the manner in which COUNTRY BUMPKIN achieved his debut win as a chaser indicated he is also a strong contender for this.

Others not to be ignored: THE ARABIAN DUKE, NAPOLEON and THAT’S HOW IT GOES

Suggested Bet:  Each Way MAGIC WONDER

                              Multi      1-3-5-8-9

FLAT PREVIEW

HAWERA – Friday 11th September

ACTING OUT Race 4: Two solid performances last month set up the Stephen Marsh-trained filly to clear maiden grade.

ELLERSLIE – Saturday 12th September

TWO ILLICIT Race 7: She was a class act last season, especially at Ellerslie where she has three wins and two placings from five starts, and can make a winning return.

RICCARTON – Saturday 12th September

FIVE PRINCES Race 5: In a purple patch of form and still well enough placed in the handicap to continue in the same vein.

TAUPO – Sunday 13th September

HIGH ACHIEVER Race 6: Won his only start last season and with a couple of trial runs under the belt should be ready to make it two from two.
