JILDI JILDI Race 5 Riccarton

Having the last 200m sectionals is ideal to have as it throws up horses that run average last 600m and fast last 200 metres. She was a good example in this race. After trailing she was held up on the turn, then had to weave around a bit and once out and balanced up hit the line hard and was in front soon after the post. Her last 600m of 35.06 was only fifth fastest but her last 200m was 12.06, the fastest. She is only rated on 65, so to do that against an open field, tells us she can win an R65 race very soon.

RICKY BAKER Race 7 Riccarton

From his wide draw, he had to drop back to last in the big field. From about 700m out he had to come the widest and even though he finished fifth, he ran the fastest closing sectionals in all categories. Being on a rating of just 67 against much higher rated runners means he just needs to drop back to a weaker class race to be very hard to beat.

OUR GIRL GILLY Race 7 Riccarton

She did well to share a solid tempo ( First 400m 24.35) and fight hard to hold on for third. At her previous start, she won in an above-average speed rating and she is rated on 69. Back in her own class, and maybe ridden off the lead, she can win again.

SPEECHMAKER Race 8 Ellerslie

After sitting 3 and 4 wide in the open near the pace, he fought on very well for 7th, 1.8L from the winner. Back in an easier R65 race, he must be harder to beat.
