The opening day of Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Week^® at Ellerslie is highlighted by New Zealand’s richest Group I race, the $1 million Trackside New Zealand Derby for three-year-old thoroughbred horses.

Off-track, Trackside Derby Day provides a spectacular mix of hospitality and entertainment with three fashion competitions headed up by the national fashions in the field final – The Ned Prix de Fashion, live music from Kiwi rockers, Zed, free children’s entertainment, competitions and more.

On track, the Trackside New Zealand Derby - arguably the most prized race in New Zealand - is supported by three other group and listed races with another six in support.

Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day

A day that celebrates the running of the time-honoured $500,000 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup^® and boasts a spectacular racing programme – it’s certainly a fitting close to Ellerslie's summer season.

In addition to the big one, the day’s racing menu includes the Group I Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes, for the leading weight-for-age performers, while the country’s top two-year-old thoroughbreds clash in the Group I Sistema Stakes.

Add to this an epic after party headlined by Kiwi reggae sensations, The Black Seeds, this is one raceday you do not want to miss.

The big race, the great day and one final hurrah to one incredible summer of racing.
