Thames J.C.

Thames Jockey Club, incorporated in 1880, is proudly based in Thames, New Zealand. The Club’s flagship event is the Thames Gold Cup, held every January at Te Aroha Racecourse. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly summer raceday with plenty of activities for the kids, summer raceday fashion, and the famous Thames Flounder Pack spot prizes. It’s an intergenerational day out enjoyed by locals and holidaymakers alike. Reserved picnic spots are available for hire - perfect for birthdays or simply getting together with friends. The public stand comes alive with live music throughout the day, and there’s always a great line-up of food trucks on course. It’s the ideal New Year catch-up for family and friends from the Coromandel to the Plains - come and enjoy a great day of racing. For hospitality and group booking options, please contact the Club.

Thames Raceday - January
Experience the iconic Thames Raceday in early January with the backdrop of the Kaimai Ranges at the spectacular Matamata Racecourse. This day is renowned for fantastic free children’s’ entertainment and lots of giveaways throughout the day. Join the fashions in the field for great prizes. Course

Te Aroha

The venue provides full training facilities (approx 80 horses in work), and is home to Racing Te Aroha which now holds approximately ten meetings each season which has increased significantly from previous years.  Two grandstands overlooking the track provide patrons with excellent viewing of the racing, with several of the lounges having been refurbished in recent years.  The Te Aroha track is considered by many as one of the finest winter racing surfaces in New Zealand, where all horses are given an opportunity to perform with one of the longest home straights in the country.
