Otago R.C.
The Club was first established in 1862 and moved to its present location of Wingatui in 1899. Whilst the majority of their race meetings are held at Wingatui the club does take one meeting each year to Central Otago (Cromwell) for one of the largest Christmas parties in Central Otago. Cromwell Christmas at the Races - November
Otago Racing Club will once again host the ultimate central Otago Christmas celebration! There is plenty to keep you entertained throughout the day including fashion in the field, live entertainment, and a visit from the man in red himself! Located at one of the most beautiful and scenic racecourses in New Zealand your group won't be disappointed!
Melbourne Cup Day - November
This fixture is the Club’s highest attended race day with around 8000 people making their way to Wingatui to enjoy the local racing and the action from Flemington on the giant screen. The majority of the crowd are entertained inside marquees and enjoy great hospitality. The day appeals to corporates who have private marquees and also to students who come to the event to celebrate their end-of-year exams. Most years the student tent, known as the Makybe Diva marquee houses 500 people and sells out in next to no time.
Boxing Day - December
The Boxing Day fixture is the Club's largest family event. It is a feature license so good horse numbers are in attendance and the racing is good quality. There is also plenty of free entertainment and activities for all the family.

Course
Oamaru
Oamaru Racecourse prides itself on being able to offer good winter going and its central South Island location means it’s supported by trainers from far and wide. Home to the Oamaru Jockey Club, the course is going through one of the greatest renaissances in the Gallop South region. Following a number of years of poor community support and low attendances, the facility is being nursed back to its former glory by a dedicated team, so much so that Oamaru Cup Day achieved the biggest on-course turnover of any rival winter racing club on the eastern side of the South Island.

Oamaru Cup Day – July
Held traditionally right at the end of the racing season in July. As a result, it has often been the venue for “premiership” showdowns between the country’s leading jockeys and trainers hungry to get final wins on the board to secure their title. The Oamaru Cup and the North Otago Cup often attract quality horses targeting the Winter Cup, and large fields are often prominent due to the excellent winter racing surface the track is able to provide. Audience participation events have become a tradition of late and the Cup day also feature the “North Otago Gumboot Tossing Championship”, including the Oamaru All-Ages Booticap. There is a very competitive Team Punters Challenge, a Punters Club and heaps of kid’s activities. One of the other forms of entertainment is a North v South Jockey Challenge.
