Meeting News

Message from Hawkes Bay Racing

Unfortunately as a result of the significant weather situation we are currently trying to navigate, the decision has been made to abandon Sunday’s Wairoa Cup races. Whilst disappointing for all involved, we believe this is the right decision at a time where the focus needs to be on responding to the challenges a number of people are dealing with as a result of the poor weather.  Our thoughts go out to those people who have been impacted and hope for a speedy recovery in particular to our friends in Wairoa who we were very much looking forward to hosting their Wairoa Cup Raceday on Sunday.

We do however want to thank the team at Taranaki Racing Club, for adding the Affco NZ Ltd Wairoa Cup OPN HCP 1900m to their raceday this Friday and we wish you all the best for the meeting.

Given the somewhat early notification, we hope trainers have sufficient time to make alternate race plans, whilst at the same time we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Whilst many people have been affected across the East Coast and other parts of New Zealand, Hawkes Bay Racing Club are proud of our support of the Hawkes Bay Community and as such we are opening our doors to those in need of power, internet and a dry space to relax.  We will also be providing meals for anyone in need of food over the next 3 days as residents battle with various challenges.  This will provide the people of Hawkes Bay an opportunity to unwind, whilst also providing an opportunity for a ‘mate check’ to enable residents to reach out if they require support of any kind.

Further to this, we are looking to offer stables for anyone in need of horse accommodation.  Please call Richard Fenwick – 027 235 8556

All the best to those racing this week.

Stay safe

Hawkes Bay Racing.
