COVID PROTOCOLS – CLOSED DOOR MEETING

As a consequence of today’s government announcement, the Otaki race meeting on Friday 25 June will race under “NZTR Directive COVID-19 Alert Levels 1 and 2”.

It has been decided that this meeting will be conducted as a ‘closed-door’ meeting, meaning that the owners of horses entered, members, the public, and sponsors will not be permitted to attend.

NZTR and the club apologise and acknowledge that this may be a disappointment to those affected, but with insufficient time allowed to safely plan for a group (or groups) limited up to 100 persons, it was jointly determined that this restriction is justified.

Under current Alert Levels (variously Level 2 and Level 1) there are no restrictions on travel for officials, jockeys or other participants.  However, any such person working or participating at the race meeting must not attend if they experience cold or flu-like symptoms.

Other key requirements:

  • Trainers are not required to advise the club of names of staff in advance, but all persons entering the racecourse are required to scan the NZ COVID Tracer APP QR code for the venue – or confirm their attendance on a register in the raceday office.
  • Only enter those areas of the racecourse that they need to enter in order to perform their duties or their role at that Meeting, and comply with the requirements of the relevant Club regarding access to the various areas of the racecourse while the Meeting is in progress, and specifically Trainers and stable staff must not enter the Jockey Rooms
  • Jockeys are required to have their temperature screened on arrival at the Weigh Room / Jockey rooms area.
  • The wearing of face masks is not mandatory but is encouraged.
