In his first start since scoring a maiden win in March, he settled well back before finding the line nicely to dead-heat for third. This race was only 990m and his maiden win came over 1300m, so stepping back up in trip should suit.

Riccarton September 13

INTENTION

Big effort in the Canterbury Belle Stakes by this northern filly, who won the Gr. 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes as a two-year-old last season. She was taken back from her wide draw, then had some difficulty finding room in the first half of the straight. Once clear, she made up plenty of ground and ran the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m in the race.

ARCHAIC SMILE

A multiple black-type placegetter as a three-year-old, her first-up performance on Sunday suggested she could have another successful season in store at four. She raced well back and wide before running on in good style to finish fourth.

On a day dominated by those on the speed, Redana put in a good effort to come from second-last. She came widest around the turn and ran on strongly. She ran the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m.
