Best Bets

Race 2 - #2 TAP ‘N’ GO (Each Way)

In a race that looks devoid of any tempo outside of Sacred Kitty, I thought Tap ‘N’ Go should land a perfect trailing spot just off her early. He gets a map advantage over key market rivals Henry Hubber, Benaud, and Zoulander who will all be likely to get back in running, which should see him proving hard to catch off the expected moderate tempo. He should have every chance here to be making it three on the bounce.

Race 7 - #10 PRINCE ALBY (Each Way)

Really like the $6.50 the TAB put up on open for this horse. He has gone from strength-to-strength this preparation since returning from QLD. With main market rivals Asathought & Dunhill returning from testing two-mile contests, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for Prince Alby to continue his upward spiral. The likely rain-effected going shouldn’t pose an issue at this trip, as he posted an impressive last start victory over the 2200m on soft7 going at Wingatui. Looks a great each way chance with even luck in running.

Value Bet

Race 3 - #4 DIVOVSKI (Each Way)

The sting out of the ground should see a much better run out of this horse 4th up. This preparation hasn’t gone remotely to plan for this lightly tried 5yo, after he pulled up with a vet issue post his last start. If he can replicate anything close to the form he showed this time last year, he will give this a shake at a price.

Race 7 – Carriers Arms Hotel Riverton Cup (Listed)

Key Runners

#3 ASATHOUGHT

#4 DUNHILL

#10 PRINCE ALBY

Summary

A very even line of stayers contesting the 2147m trip for this year’s edition of the Carriers Arms Hotel Riverton Cup. #3 ASATHOUGHT & #4 DUNHILL both must overcome the large step back in trip to be saluting here, having contested the Wellington & Auckland Cups respectively at their latest outings. Lightly tried 4yo son of Sacred Falls, #10 PRINCE ALBY, has proven to be one of the more progressive horses making their way through their grades in the South Island, he now faces his biggest test against the older horses. These three runners mentioned above head the early market.
