PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

Cindy Falls

It may have been a mid-week Fillies and Mares maiden, but the Miller stable seem to have unearthed a handy Mare. On debut, CINDY FALLS jumped from a wide gate and was subsequently parked 3-wide without cover throughout. She had every right to stop after a tough run but in fact, once she wound up, she put a space on the field. Not only scoring by 2 ¼ lengths but recording the fastest last 800m, 600m, 400m & 200m of the race. She is one to keep an eye on for sure.

RIDE OF THE WEEK

Doni Prastiyou – Bellano

A get back in running type, BELLANO was always going to need some luck and a good ride here. Taken back to last early, Doni was aware there was no point in making a long sweeping run around the field into the short Taranaki straight. Instead, he was able to pinch runs up the rail and when the field entered the straight, Doni angled out into the best part of the track where BELLANO’s finish was too strong. A patient, but intellectual ride was the winning of the race.

Race 6 Pukekohe, 22 March

Mr Mondello

Caught 3-wide early from the outside gate, luck seemingly deserted Joe Doyle as he was unable to find a spot or cover through the remainder of the race. The pair launched a run at the top of the straight, but it was only enough to finish second. With luck in running, I don’t think he would have beaten the winner, but he certainly finishes closer. The lightly tried son of Mongolian Khan has a win in store soon.

Race 4 Taranaki,  24 March

The Hottie

Taken back to last in running, Ciel Butler let THE HOTTIE settle into a rhythm. At the 200m mark, the pair were still some distance from the leading bunch. When she was presented to the outside with just over 100m to run, THE HOTTIE really flattened out late and finished off just over 1 length from the winner. With closing sectionals far superior to the rest of the field, the winner of just one race, should be adding to her tally very quickly.

Race 6 Riccarton, 25 March

Lord Darci

He has pieced together a smart record lately and the son of Darci Brahma looks like he isn’t finished yet. He got back in the field and turning for home when Terry Moseley went to present him for a run, he was hampered and had to change ground. He went back to the inside, but the runs never really came the whole way down the straight and Terry went to the line with LORD DARCI relatively untested over the final 300m.
