Hawke’s Bay Relief fund extended another fortnight

With the equine plight in the Hawke’s Bay region showing no signs of abating, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing has decided to extend its appeal for at least another two weeks.

Feedback from the Hawke’s Bay and other affected areas is that the equine community needs remain on-going and significant.

To date the public donations is approaching $50,000 on top of the initial $50,000 allotted by NZTR and the significant contribution from Dunstan Horsefeeds.

“This fund was initially planned to end on Friday 24 February but with feedback that there is still an on-going need and with the very generous donations still coming in, we believe that the fund should remain open,” said Bruce Sharrock, CEO New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

Contributions for two other racing industry funds are heartening. Cambridge trainer Roger James launched an appeal for funds to provide provisions for day-to-day living essentials for those who have been significantly affected.

And Te Akau Racing continue to receive donations and pledges from Te Akau Syndicate members and friends of Te Akau to raise funds which will be directed to New Zealand Red Cross for their vital work in the Hawke’s Bay region.
