In this edition of 'Trainer Tuesday,' we highlight Balcairn based training duo John and Karen Parsons who have collected 61 Group and Listed Winners in partnership. 

 

The pair had a stellar 2012-13 season when the star of their stable Final Touch picked up three Group One wins – the Captain Cook Stakes, the Telegraph, and the Waikato Draught Sprint. The mare went on to land the New Zealand Champion Sprinter Award for the season.

 

 

The Parsons achieved a personal record of seven Group or Listed races during the 2012-13 season, a record nearly matched in the 2019/20 season where they finished with six feature wins.

 

Another highlight from the Parson stable Kiwi Ida contributed two Group Two race wins, the Westbury Classic in 2020, and the Manawatu Stakes in 2019. 

 

John and Karen have a close connection with legendary jockey Chris Johnson, who shares 142 wins with pair - three Group One, three Group Two, and four Group Three winners.

 

They currently sit 15th on the trainer's premiership this season, with 38 horses in training and the dedication the southern trainers have provided they will have more to add to their already decorated legacy.
