The wide draw forced him to snag back at the start and he just couldn't sprint home fast enough to get close, but he still ran the best last 200 metres. He just needs a decent draw next-up to make amends.

Just forget he went round. The very wide draw meant he had to go well back in the 16-horse field. Then, he was held up in the straight but still managed to run the best closing sectionals in all categories. There is a nice race for him coming up in the next few weeks.

He may have only finished seventh, but with the fastest closing last 400 and 200 metres of the race, it does indicate he is nearing a win. The way he strides out suggests a middle distance could ideally suit.

The blinkers going on did the trick, with a very tough second here after sharing a solid tempo. If she can find a race where she can get a softer time up front, she has to be very hard to beat.
