OVERVIEW – THIS WEEKEND

Best on Breeding (Savabeel)

SAVATOXL (MANIKATO STAKES)

Purchased in New Zealand but ended up starting his racing career in the top end of Australia at Alice Springs.  After being tried as a stayer his owners decided to send him to Melbourne to be trained by Tony McEvoy and from then on was prepared as a sprinter and won the group one Goodwood Stakes in Adelaide in May and was successful at Caulfield a fortnight ago.  His mother is Li’l Miss Hayley who was a daughter of Savabeel.

MO-UNGA (COX PLATE)

Son of Savabeel who’s racing in great form and looked good two starts back when second in the Makybe Diva under group one conditions behind arguably one of the best horses in Australasia in Incentivise.

PROBABEEL (COX PLATE)

Terrific win in the Caulfield Stakes last start and being the daughter of Savabeel the Cox Plate conditions should suit perfectly.  Will be ridden by in form jockey Brett Prebble.

KAONIC (FINAL HANDICAP)

Another Savabeel however he seems to have lost his way since doing a preparation in Darwin.

Moonee Valley – Friday night

SUPER THIEF (HAT HANDICAP)

Unbeaten in two starts this time in at Swan Hill and Sale and is by the New Zealand based Super Easy.  One of the chances.

IRISH FLAME (SIGNS HANDICAP)

Son of Zed who looks like he’s lost all form but smart on his day.

ONLY WORDS (HANDICAP)

Born in New Zealand from good middle distance mare Jungle Pago.  Last two runs have been excellent and in good hands.

OUR INTRIGUE (HANDICAP)

Former New Zealand galloper who raced with distinction before coming to Australia two years ago.  Formerly trained by Tony Pike and now trained by the all-conquering Chris Waller.  Watch.

Moonee Valley – Saturday

DREAM QUEEN (CROCKETT STAKES)

Raced brilliantly when back in New Zealand however she struggled a touch at Mornington when making her debut at a very short price.  There were excuses for her and in strong training yard keep very safe.

DANCELITTLESISTER (CROCKETT STAKES)

By the late Sacred Falls who has been a great sire of sprinters and this filly is no exception.  She looked good when winning at Bairnsdale when sensationally supported.

MARACANA (FILLIES CLASSIC)

Well-bred New Zealand youngster by Shamexpress.  Put together two convincing victories from as many starts in the provincial area.  Will race with winkers for the first time and although rising in grade must be considered.

NATIVE GIRL (FILLIES CLASSIC)

Good type of youngster who’s been placed at last two starts. Is by Tivaci and is out of a former English mare.  Recent placings suggest she is on the improve.

ELEPHANT (CRYSTAL MILE)

In outstanding form and has done everything right until his last start blemish at Caulfield.  The hardness of the surface may have attributed to his downfall.  Certainly worth another chance.

SECOND SLIP (CRYSTAL MILE)

Another who failed at Caulfield last time and could have found the hard surface beyond him.  Form before that was very good. Go well.

IMPECUNIOUS (CRYSTAL MILE)

Kiwi bred mare who has put in two indifferent performances lately but could improve sharply.

RHINOCEROS (CRYSTAL MILE)

Has taken all before him since arriving in Australia.  His wins at Moonee Valley and Caulfield have been full of merit.  He makes his own luck and will be very hard to run down.

FORGOT YOU (GOLF VASE)

Won two straight at Moonee Valley before being beaten 2.9 lengths at Caulfield last time.  Go well.

JUNGLE MAGNET (GOLF VASE)

Son of Tarzino who was desperately luckless in Adelaide last time.  Certain to measure up.

CHEERFUL MOMENT (GOLF VASE)

Nice three-year-old from a strong New Zealand family and he was steadily making ground behind Rhinoceros at Caulfield.  Consider.

VILLADEN (GOLF VASE)

Nice stayer by the all-conquering Tavistock and will relish this journey.  Watch betting.

SAMARKAND (GOLF VASE)

Battle on well when making his Australian debut on a very heavy track at Moe.  In astute stable and will have benefitted from his Australian debut.

COMMANDER HARRY (GOLF VASE)

Nicely bred and has been successful against much weaker company however merits thought.

THE GOOD FIGHT (VALLEY CUP)

Noted New Zealand stayer out of a powerful family line of distance winners.  Not far away in the Bart Cumming Stakes and his chances will be greatly enhanced if the rain becomes a factor.

CALLSIGN MAV (COX PLATE)

Will be a rags to riches story.  Cost just $3,000 as a yearling and has now earnt over half a million dollars.  In the very upper echelon of the best New Zealand racehorses of the day and his two past group one wins at Hastings is an indication that he’ll be hard to beat.

VEERY ELLEEGANT (COX PLATE)

Touch disappointing last time but is much better than that.  This is the race she has been set for and expect her to be running on in the concluding stages.

Randwick – Saturday

ENTRIVIERE (THE INVITATION)

Impressive winner of the Sheraco resuming two back and there was plenty of merit in her effort when a close third in the Golden Pendant last start coming from the back of the field in a race dominated by on pacers. Genuine winning chance.
