Members Council update
Following is an update from the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Members’ Council, as we approach the end of the 2020-21 racing season and begin the countdown to the 2021 NZTR Annual General Meeting and NZTR’s 2021 Annual Report.
Members Council activities
The Members’ Council has formally met twice with the NZTR Board to discuss the various issues raised by stakeholders, and the Board’s responses have been circulated to the broader industry.
The Council will conduct a full meeting and performance review with the Board later this year and provide a report to the Annual General Meeting. Ahead of that the Council will call once more for submissions from stakeholders for the Board’s consideration.
In addition, Council members have been active attending racedays and have met several times to discuss incidental matters as they arise, this is on a monthly basis.
Regional Roadshows
NZTR and the Members’ Council will be conducting regional roadshows through August and September at which NZTR and representatives of the Members’ Council will provide updates on NZTR’s activities, performance and strategic projects. Dates will be finalised and communicated to the industry shortly.
Board Structure
The Members’ Council has been advised of two resignations from the Board:
- Bruce Sharrock, who joins NZTR’s executive team as Chief Operating Officer; and
- Darryll Park, who resigns for personal and family reasons.
The Council takes this opportunity to recognise the contribution Bruce & Darryll have made to the Board.
NZTR also confirm that Jason Fleming is not required to resign from the NZTR Board as a result of his appointment to the TAB NZ Board.
The Members’ Council is currently considering how to discharge its constitutional responsibilities in relation to the two vacancies and formal notice to the industry of the next steps will be given by NZTR in due course.
