Lily d'Or Race 1 Te Rapa 10 July

She had the toughest run three wide in the open but was still able to keep up a good gallop to hold third in the third best last 200 metres. She can pick up another race very soon based on that.

Cheval Prometteur Race 2 Te Rapa 10 July

On the turn, you would have though he would have struggled to run in the top five but the way he rallied to come back and run the best last 400m and 200m says he either needs blinkers for the Winter Cup or needs more ground to be backed with good confidence.

Barracuda Race 3 Te Rapa 10 July

It is amazing what a set of blinkers can do to a horse's form. This big fella was just doing okay until he had some put on him for this race. He sat three wide in the open, but was travelling like the winner well out, and then had the cheek to stroll away and win with ease, running the best closing sectionals in all categories! He has the breeding to win more races and it will be a big surprise if he doesn't, but only if they leave those blinkers on.

Treasure State Race 4 Te Rapa 10 July

A slowish start ensured he got back and they didn't go hard up front, so to hit the line hard in the best last 600m and 400m shows over more ground and probably on a better surface, he will take a lot of holding out.

Crystallize Race 5 Te Rapa 10 July

He covered plenty of extra ground, so did very well to keep fighting on for second in a handy field. Likely to start here again in the Open Handicap over 1500m on the 24th, and with the capable 4kg claiming apprentice Ace Lawson-Carroll on again, he should be very hard to beat.

Justaskme Race 5 Te Rapa 10 July

The way he was winding up out wide and hitting the line in the best last 200m, shows he did what trainer Allan Sharrock would have wanted to see heading towards the Winter Cup. He may have one more run before that though, with four weeks in between.

Tickle Me Almo Race 8 Te Rapa 10 July

A case could be made for him winning this race if he had not been held up before the turn and having to make his run in the slower part of the straight. His closing sectionals were the best which indicates he is going to win again very soon.

Sir Beets Race 4 Awapuni 10 July

The way he closed off in similar sectionals to the Open handicappers over a shorter distance, shows he may now want more ground. The way he gets his head down and gives it 100 per cent is always nice to see in a racehorse.

Magdala Race 6 Awapuni 10 July

It really does look like she wants a middle distance now, the way she wound up late and wide with loping strides to run third in the best last 200 metres. Being out of a Zabeel mare could help with seeing that distance out too!
