Standout sectionals - week ending August 30 2020
CHECKERS Rotorua Race 7 was a bit slow out and got back, then circled the whole field to lead 150 metres out only to be run down by Initiative, who took shortcuts. His L600m of 41.46 was very good considering the ground he covered. That was his second up run so don't be surprised if the side winkers go back on when he is peaking next up from the powerful Baker/Forsman stable.
NANCY SPAIN New Plymouth Race 1 did very well to burn early from a wide draw and lead running the first 500m in 31.71, faster than the second race by 2 lengths, yet she was able to still kick and hold on and win well and her time was 8 lengths faster than the race 2 time. Her action says she will appreciate better ground as well, so she looks to have a bright future.
JUSTASKME New Plymouth Race 3 even a slow start and getting back in the slower ground, then having to angle wide and balance, could not stop this very good 5yo gelding from winning easily. He still ran the second fastest L600 39.66 all day and looks in for a profitable campaign.
MANRICO Tauranga Race 4 was crowded up at the start and got back, then had to check off heels 900m out. The leader, Divine Dive got a soft lead and was able to pinch a winning break after turning in while Manrico had to lose about 5 lengths hunting wide for a gap. He closed off in 37.47, almost the same as the winner, so he is right at his peak now and just needs a good draw over 1200 or 1400m to be very hard to beat.
