We caught up with Byerley Park co-trainer Emma Clotworthy, here's what we learnt in 60 seconds...

What made you want to pursue a career in racing?

Ever since I met Shaun he has always been involved, so I guess I married into racing. I love the jumpers and felt I could offer a different perspective with my eventing background.

What has been a career highlight for you?

Waiting to one day win the Great Northern Steeplechase, it’s the ultimate test!

Do you have a memorable horse you’ve trained?

Diesel. A lot of hard work and maintenance went into him.

A horse you felt never met their full potential?

Sir Jack Gunno.

A horse that went above and beyond expected?

Go Joeli.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

I have received plenty of good advice, but a saying that sticks with me is “If you can dream it, you can do it”. Also to look people straight in the eye and give a firm handshake.

Favourite racecourse?

Ellerslie and Te Aroha.

Who is more competitive, you or Shaun?

We are both very competitive, but I would say I am by a nose.

If you weren’t in racing, what else would you be doing?

A fashion designer or back to real estate.

What did you spend your time doing during lockdown?

Ticking the jumpers over and covering our outdoor fireplace with slate (about 20 hrs plus and counting).

If you could invite three people to dinner, who would they be?

Richie McCaw, Will I Am and Bradley Cooper.

If you could switch lives with someone for the day, who would it be?

Dynamo.

What is one thing people are surprised to know about you?

I have a dress up outfit for most occasions in my wardrobe.
