The Board of NZ Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) welcomes today’s announcement from the Minister for Racing the Rt Hon Winston Peters regarding the next steps in the reform of the racing industry (see: Racing Minister proposes major legislative change).

 

“It’s great to see the progress made in the relatively short timeframe that the Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) has been in place,” NZTR CEO Bernard Saundry said.

 

“We are very grateful for the Racing Minister’s commitment to driving change and his recognition of the current state of the racing industry and the urgent need for that change.”

 

 “NZTR congratulates the MAC on the work they have done to produce its interim report to the Minister,” Saundry added.   

 

“We look forward to continuing to work alongside the MAC and, from 1 July, the Racing Industry Transitional Authority (RITA) to ensure the implementation of the proposed reforms goes smoothly.”
