Owners with good winter 1600m horses have a major incentive to target the Oamaru Jockey Club’s Crombie and Price Oamaru Cup on 21 July.

Last season the Oamaru Jockey Club offered a $25,000 bonus for any horse which could win both the Oamaru Cup and the CJC’s Winter Cup.  This year the club has ramped things up and announced it will pay a $60,000 bonus to the owner (or lessee in the case of a leased horse) of any horse that can win their feature race and the 122nd Winter Cup.

The Crombie and Price Oamaru Cup is run over 1600m for a stake of $35,000 and is followed two weeks later by the Group Three Winter Cup at the CJC’s Riccarton Park racecourse.  Run on the first day of the Grand National Festival of Racing the Winter Cup, also over 1600m, carries a stake of $100,000.

Entries for the 122nd Winter Cup will close at 4pm on Tuesday 11 June 2019.  A late entry clause applies and closes on Wednesday 17 July 2019, four days before the Crombie and Price Oamaru Cup.

The winner or winners of the Crombie and Price Oamaru Cup will be exempt from the ballot in the 122nd Winter Cup.

In the unlikely event of dead-heats the bonus will be divided evenly between the dead-heaters.

Should either of the two races not be held for whatever reason the bonus will not apply.

Should the ownership and/or lease arrangement change between the running of the two races the bonus will be paid to the owner or lessee at the time of the running of the 122nd Winter Cup.
