Wyndham R.C.

The Wyndham Racing Club has one day of racing a season at Gore in March. The club, formed about 1891, has been racing at Gore since 2018 (also in 2007 and 2008) after racing at Ascot Park in 2014 and 2017 and previously at Wyndham. The club held two permits until 1999-2000 season and for many years raced on January 1 or thereabouts, the same day as the Waikouaiti RC. Kilowatt, trained by Kelvin and Aimee Tyler, won the Wyndham Cup in 2021, repeating his win of two years earlier. The previous dual winner was The Tommy Beckett -trained King D’Or in 2000 and 2002. Royal Bid winner of the 1964 Wyndham Cup when trained at Invercargill by D V (Toby) Pankhurst for owner Mr L B McKenzie won the New Zealand Cup two years later from the Riccarton stable of Vic Clutterbuck.

Gore

Gore racecourse is home to the Gore Racing Club.  The racecourse is situated on 53 hectares of freehold land which as well as providing racing facilities is also a training centre. You can combine your trip to the races with some fishing. From October to April, Gore attracts anglers from all over the world hoping to catch the wily brown trout, famous in the waters of the nearby Mataura river. Gore is also the Country Music Capital of New Zealand and hosts the “Gold Guitar Awards” during the week leading to Queens Birthday weekend each year and is attended by participants from throughout Australasia.
