Wanganui J.C.
Whanganui has been home to the Wanganui Jockey Club since 1848 and as such they are the oldest racing club in New Zealand still operating on the original land. The racing surface is a sand-based 1700 metre track offering a very good year-round racing surface. The Whanganui racecourse is only minutes from the city centre, with several motels in close proximity. See our race dates below.
Eftpos: Available on race day from the Secretary’s Office and selected rooms.
Hospitality: Rooms are available for sponsor and group functions. Enquire now and be in early to reserve your piece of the action!
Membership: Annual Subscription of $65 entitles you & a guest access to the Members Lounge at any of our race days, newsletters, and reciprocal rights with other thoroughbred racing clubs. Contact the club on 06 345 3968 for more information or see www.wjc.co.nz/membership.
Functions/events: The Wanganui Function Centre is an ideal event centre located in the centre of town and has a range of rooms available for special occasions. November - Wanganui Christmas Cup Day
Cup Day is usually at the end of November and is the Christmas at the races celebrations. This is usually a sold out day so get in early and book your package! There is always plenty of on-course activities and entertainment including live music, Fashion in the Field, the annual Mascot race and GG Glory races as well as great racing action including the Steelform Roofing Group Wanganui Cup.
