Beaumont R.C.
The Beaumont Racing Club race once a year at Wingatui on the outskirts of Dunedin on Otago Anniversary day in March. This is a dual code meeting with the Forbury Park Trotting Club. The typical programme is six races for thoroughbreds and six for pacers and trotters on the 2000m grass track with a 350m straight. Beaumont races are the perfect outing for the family. The club was formed in 1886 and shifted its race meeting from Beaumont in West Otago to Wingatui in 1987, a move which has led to an increase in betting turnover and prize money.

Featured meeting
Beaumont’s race day has a very different atmosphere compared to those hosted at Wingatui by the Otago Racing Club. Many traditions carried out by the Club from the days when their meeting was hosted at the old Beaumont course are still continued. With arguably the longest list of supporters of any Club in the country, the Beaumont committee take great pride in awarding trophies and prizes to nearly everyone with a horse running on the day. These prizes range from a sack of locally grown organic potatoes to the very handsome Publican’s Cup, put forward by a number of hoteliers from the region on an annual basis.
Course
Wingatui
Wingatui Racecourse in Dunedin is home to the Otago Racing Club. It also hosts the annual fixture of the Beaumont Racing Club and Waikouaiti Racing Club. The course is the strategic racing and training centre in the Otago region and is home to around 120 horses. Wingatui stages the region’s Group and Listed races, the most celebrated of which is the Group 3 White Robe Lodge Stakes run in February at the Club’s Champions Day, Premier meeting. Significant funds have been spent in recent years on improving the facilities and grounds at Wingatui and the track can be considered one of the most modern and comfortable in New Zealand.

Non-Race Day facilities:
Wingatui is a picturesque racecourse, with facilities that lend themselves to non-race day functions. The racecourse is also a busy and active function centre hosting weddings, conferences and functions. Many other community sporting events are run at the course, including Mud Sweat and Tears, the Edmund Cup cross country and numerous pony club fixtures.
Hospitality:
The Otago Racing Club prides itself on its hospitality. Every race day Trackside dining is available in the Winning Post Lounge overlooking the birdcage and adjacent to the Winning Post. However, on their major days such as Melbourne Cup Day, Boxing Day, Champions Day and Fillies Day the club offers numerous packages based inside the grandstand and also in marquees. Over 3500 are pre-sold into hospitality on Melbourne Cup Day. To view options visit the club’s website: https://wingatui.co.nz/function-centre

Featured meeting
Melbourne Cup Day
This fixture is the Club’s highest attended race day with around 8000 people making their way to Wingatui to enjoy the local racing and the action from Flemington on the giant screen. The majority of the crowd are entertained inside marquees and enjoy great hospitality. The day appeals to corporates who have private marquees and also to students who come to the event to celebrate their end-of-year exams. Most years the student tent, known as the Makybe Diva marquee houses 500 people and sells out in next to no time.
Boxing Day
The Boxing Day fixture is the Club's largest family event. It is a feature license so good horse numbers are in attendance and the racing is good quality. There is also plenty of free entertainment and activities for all the family.
