Kumara Racecourse stages racing once a year in January hosted by the Kumara Racing Club. In recent years the track has undergone a major overhaul resulting in an excellent racing surface. They look forward to a large crowd and great racing in January featuring the Kumara Gold Nuggets. All races are features with a dress rug presented to all winners.

Membership of the club is $30.00 per year and admission to the course $15.00.

The Club caters for all groups including corporates, weddings, birthday parties, family and school reunions. Tent sites are available for hire. Buses are provided from Greymouth to transport patrons to and from the course. There is good entertainment for children with a kiddies tote, performing clowns and different food experiences such as whitebait and venison. The club provides live bands on the day including the famous Kokatahi Band. Fashions in the field are held for both men and women.
