Thank you to everyone for the effort you're putting into helping manage the current Strangles outbreak. Your vigilance, prompt reporting and strong biosecurity practices are helping to contain the disease.

Current situation

The latest update from the New Zealand Equine Health Association confirms:

• There have been no new confirmed Strangles properties since 9 July.

• The outbreak remains contained to the Waikato region, with 13 affected properties.

• One linked property in Auckland remains well contained and is not connected to racing or communal training facilities.

Updated travel requirements. If you are transporting horses between the North and South Islands:

• Horses must be clinically healthy.

• Horses must complete five days of twice-daily temperature monitoring before travel.

• A completed health declaration must accompany the horse.

• Approval from the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) Veterinary Services Manager and a negative PCR test before travel.
