The NZTR Tracks Consultant, Liam O’Keeffe, and Canterbury Region RTA, Alan Chapman, inspected Phar Lap Raceway on Tuesday 30 June 2026.

Racing was abandoned at the venue after three races of the Waimate Racing Club meeting on Sunday 7 June

In the time since the following work has been completed:

• Mole ploughed entire track (This action will be undertaken again).
• Shockwave machine put around course proper.
• Verti drained to 250mm with (13mm tines) 80mm spacings on the bend.
• Sand spread on top and into profile via Verti drain holes.

The inspection expressed satisfaction with the remediation work.  Whilst this time of year is not usually ideal for such work a good weather window has prevailed this year.

In the week beginning Monday 6 July the verti-drain will be put through the turn out of the straight using 13mm tines with 80x80mm spacings, at 250mm deep.

The following is planned to facilitate a return to racing.

• Tuesday 21 July. Jumpouts. Rail in true position.

The jump outs will start at the top of the home straight and pull up in the back straight to comprehensively test the turn after the winning post.

The Club will arrange for senior riders to ride at the jumpouts and trials.

• Tuesday 11 August. Trials. Around markers.
• Sunday 6 September. Race meeting. Rail in true position.

Due to the above the following changes have been made to the Canterbury Region trials schedule:

• The Polytrack Trials schedule for Tuesday 21 July will be brought forward to Thursday 9 July and will be run as Trials or Jumpouts depending on the number of entries.
