NZ Cup Week Weights
Weights have been released for the two handicap features over NZ Cup Week at Riccarton.
Wednesday’s TAB Mile (Group 3) $250,000 is headed by Perfect Scenario (rating 101) on 60kgs. He carried the same when a very close 3rd in the race last year. Tumuch (58.5kgs) drops from 60kgs in a Group 3 at his last start at Trentham. The race shapes as an excellent contest - one of the most open and competitive renewals staged.
The Martin Collins 162nd New Zealand Cup presented a perplexing set-up with the late nomination of Wolfgang (99), pushing virtually the entire field to the minimum weight of 53kgs.
After deliberation the decision has been made to raise the minimum weight to 54kgs.
Wolfgang is carded the minimum topweight of 59kgs, given his rating (99). He will be looking to match the weight carrying record for the race of Sapio (1998), although noting minimum weights have increased significantly.
