Open Entry races notes
Maidens
Please note that a maiden race will be run at each distance, if possible.
If a maiden race is not able to be programmed, maidens can be withdrawn at no cost.
Open Entry topweight
Given the potential for a wide spread in the weights, the motivation is to ensure lower rating horses have a genuine opportunity to be competitive and high-rated horses should be tested but not discouraged.
The topweight will be discretionary and determined by previous weight carrying performances by the top-rated horse/s, especially on the surface.
For example, Lhasa won with the 63kgs assigned weight last week at Cambridge. He has moved up 4 points to rating 87. He will be assigned 65kgs if topweight in his next Open Entry start.
As we gain more experience with these races we may be able to formulate guidance around expected weights.
Open Entry race guidelines
Entries will be taken for distances programmed and will be open to any horse.
Indicative race splits will be advised when nominations are published - subject to change should withdrawals necessitate.
If practical, a Maiden race will be conducted at each distance.
Race splits by ratings will be run as handicaps, with a minimum topweight of 59kgs and minimum weight of 54kgs.
Standard fillies and mares, 3yo, 2yo allowances apply.
Apprentice allowances permitted.
